For years, Kia has produced a host of cars that have typically attracted budget-conscious consumers looking for a reliable steed at an attractive price. However, as technology has evolved and auto manufacturers vie to maintain a competitive edge in a space that’s evolving ever so quickly, Kia has not only caught up with the times but has set themselves as a benchmark for a much broader market segment: consumers with discretionary income looking beyond traditional luxury and delving into brands they may not have considered previously. The K5 GT is a perfect example of sporty luxury attractive for the masses.
It’s rare that I step into a vehicle and immediately think to myself, “This car feels more expensive than it is.” In most instances, there’s a bit of sticker shock and while in some cases I can justify the cost of entry (see my review of the 2020 Mercedes GT 53 AMG HERE), most often I’m perplexed by the cost of entry versus the end result. Not so with the 2020 Buick Encore GX. This is a car that might very well be one of the best bargains for the buck I’ve driven thus far.

As I approached a near 90 degree curve with the exhaust note howling from Mercedes’ AMG GT 53 in Super Sport mode, it was as if the car knew my adrenaline was pumping and felt obliged to keep it that way. Upon exiting the curve, I gleefully paddle-shifted into third, then fourth, and I couldn’t help but grin at the refined, luxurious driving experience the 2020 Mercedes GT 53 AMG delivers. All this while my seat’s massage mode worked my lower and upper back.
Aside from determining how to properly modify your vehicle based on the type of travel you’re planning, storing gear and keeping food organized (and cold) are arguably two of the most calculated considerations when planning a trip. I’ve used Rubbermaid-branded containers to store my gear along with a foam ice chest from the local grocery store. I’ve also used stout, aluminum boxes and $2,500 fridges. Each end of the spectrum has its merits and I’m all for whatever fits your budget and your need.
